More and more Steel Service Center decides for radiometric thickness measuring systems from MESACON® Messelektronik GmbH Dresden.
Especially cutting and slitting lines are equipped with thickness gauges for quality control of the incoming material.

The system measures in entry section of the line before cutting and slitting of the strip. The high developed MESACON software enables the operator to identify thickness deviations of each single strip during production and provides the evidence for the quality assurance to produce within the tolerances.

After the very successful launch of the XR20 series for foil measurements up to 1 mm, the serial production of the bigger brother XR40 has already started. It enables the measurement of strips up to 15mm aluminium or 1.5mm steel in rolling mills and/or processing lines.

Since 2011 MESACON have already been commissioned by ESMECH with the delivery different X-Ray thickness gauges for India and Thailand. Two further measurement systems of type F3500 will be delivered to the Vietnamese Hoa Sen Group in February 2014 for an cold rolling mill..

The high precision gauges are based on 90kV X-Ray sources of MESACON and will be installed in entry and exit section of a reversing cold rolling mill. The systems include furthermore an EtherCat interface for digital signal transmission,  protected mechanics, as well as detectors with ionization chamber are integrated.

Further Gauges will be supplied after successful commissioning by the local MESACON service center in Mumbai / India within the next weeks.

 

In 2003 EtherCAT® was introduced as an industrial Ethernet technology. In the following, this bus system has evolved to an industry standard. In comparison to Ethernet, EtherCAT® is a real-time bus system that fulfills industrial requirements.Main advantages are the excellent performance, flexible topology and simple handling. Thousands of  slave devices can be integrated into the bus system, while the arrangement in line, tree or star topology is negligible. Together with the German line builder Achenbach as well as directly to the end customers – Mesacon supplied further new thickness gauges for aluminium rolling mills in India. After the initial installation of a new F3500 x-ray thickness gauge from Mesacon at Hindalco Renukoot cold rolling mill, three more systems are ready for commissioning. Aluminium producer Jindal India Ltd. applies a Mesacon F3500 thickness gauge at revamping of their rolling mill together with Achenbach. Furthermore, both lines at Jindal Aluminium sites Kolkata and Bangalore are currently under commissioning state by Achenbach and will be equipped with latest Mesacon F3500 x-ray technology for on-line thickness measurement.

All systems are applied for rolling mill environment including kerosene and rolling emulsion sealed sensors and chemical resistant components inside the mill area. All sensors include an x-ray source with metal ceramic tube, dry and oil free housing and direct water-cooling. Most customers replace their old thickness gauges to reduce the maintenance efforts and to avoid difficult troubleshooting caused by old glass tubes, oil filled x-ray containers or missing spare part availability.
